How to add and view tasks in Cron Job ?

Add / View – Cron Jobs

Servers can automatically perform tasks that you would otherwise have to perform yourself, such as running scripts. On Linux servers, the cron utility is the preferred way to automate the running of scripts. In this article we’ll cover how to view the jobs scheduled in the crontab list

 

Edit Cron Job Lists

Specify pico as the editor for crontab file

export VISUAL=pico; crontab -e
Specify pico as the editor for crontab file

Specify nano as the editor for crontab file

export VISUAL=nano; crontab -e
Specify vim as the editor for crontab file

export VISUAL=vim; crontab -e
Of course you need to have vim or nano installed in your system if you want to use them.

View Cron Job Lists

crontab -l

View Cron Job Lists for Selected User

crontab -u <<User Name>> -l

SHELL=/bin/bash
PATH=/sbin:/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/bin
MAILTO=root

# For details see man 4 crontabs

# Example of job definition:
# .---------------- minute (0 - 59)
# |  .------------- hour (0 - 23)
# |  |  .---------- day of month (1 - 31)
# |  |  |  .------- month (1 - 12) OR jan,feb,mar,apr ...

Add / Modify CRON Job for Selected User

crontab -u <<USERNAME>> -e

List CRON Job for Selected User

crontab <<USERNAME>> -l
